Aviation is widely considered as a male dominated profession. My responsibilities entail the maintenance of aircraft, that is ensuring the airworthiness of all parts and components, its systems and its propulsion are up to standards. As a female in this profession there are additional, challenges, but this is so for all professions; however these challenges can be overcome with hard work, dedication and integrity.

I enjoy most of all my contributions to aviation and being able to stand toe to toe with my male co-workers as an equal. ICT plays a major role in all professions today and the field of aeronautical engineering is no exception. Computers have become equally useful to me as my tool kit. The use of computers, ICT programs coupled with access to the internet continues to support me as I carry out my various tasks as an aircraft technician. Whether it be the online sourcing and acquisition of vital spares or the tracking of expiration times of critical aircraft components using computer generated databases.

As a young girl I envisioned myself following one of three career paths either in the medical field as a Doctor, in Education as a Teacher, or in Aviation as a pilot.

The region where I came from was considered remote at the time of my childhood and those career choices were considered as a means for me to contribute to alleviating the critical needs of my region and fulfill my dreams of giving back to my community.

As fate would dictate, I did follow a career in aviation but instead I chose the field of Aeronautical Engineering. When the opportunity arose, my parents and I decided I should take the leap of faith and join the Aeronautical Engineering School.

Once that wheel was set in motion, it never stopped. I have been employed for the last four 4 years at Air Services Limited. Aviation is widely considered as a male dominated profession.
